For my work I mainly used earth colors (red, ocher, black, grey), characteristic pigments in the Swedish landscape. In Sweden, houses, barns and stables are traditionally painted with a red mud paint (slamfärg: Falu röd) and black mud paint (Falu svart), the oldest and most widely used paints in Sweden. Our Swedish neighbors told us that it is mainly used outdoors for painting wood. Apparently nobody had thought that you could also paint with it on paper or canvas.
